"The Power of Music"

Music has the power to emotionally, morally, and culturally affect society. Music can relax us, inspire us, challenge us, disturb us, enrage us, motivate us, educate us, change us and much more.

This Sunday we will explore one aspect of music's power as an agent for change through protest songs spanning from the 1930s to 2020s.

Unlearning Racial Myths.

Based on Dr. Karen Gaffney’s book Dismantling the Racism Machine: A Manual and Toolbox, this presentation will debunk 3 false racial myths that continue to perpetuate racism today. These myths include the false beliefs that race is biological, that race, including whiteness, has always existed, and that systemic racism is no longer a serious problem. The systems that surround us, from the media and popular culture to education to the criminal justice system, all contribute to perpetuating these myths through explicit and implicit messages.

Dr. Karen Gaffney is a Professor of English at Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey. She facilitates anti‑racism workshops and serves in local anti‑racism coalitions

This Sunday: Empathy for Unity

What do you think about empathy?
We're often told it's a virtue, but some now argue it's harmful, biased, or even a societal weakness.
This Sunday, let's explore this idea together. We’ll discuss the "hype against empathy" and consider what we lose when we villainize the very emotion that helps us see the world through others' eyes.
Join us for an engaging and inspiring conversation.

See you all on Sunday!

10/12- Justice - Mercy - Humility
Justice    Mercy     Humility

How do these ancient calls to a moral life inform our search for ethical living in an increasingly frightening and challenging political and personal landscape?
How do we act with conviction when we are fearful for our safety and for the safety of our loved ones and for our community?
How do we support each other? How do we love each other in the presence of outside chaos and division?
These questions and challenges may seem new to us, but they are challenges faced throughout human history.
Let us come together for support, for community, for strength and for robust discussion!

No service will be held at the fellowship this Sunday Instead, we'll spend time outdoors together hiking and enjoying the beautiful weather at Stephens State Park!

Let's gather at the main parking lot at Stephens State Park on Waterloo Rd at 10 am. There are different hikes we can go on at 10:15, and those who want to stay by the river and do less walking can choose that option.

Looks like it'll be a beautiful day!

9/28- A Flower in the Driveway: Beauty and Hope in the Unexpected

Join us  Sunday, September 28th, for a service of reflection and discovery.Life often unfolds in predictable patterns on paths of our own making. Yet, sometimes, in the most unexpected and ordinary places—a crack in the pavement, a pause in our busy day—something beautiful emerges. Like a single, determined flower pushing its way through a driveway, hope can bloom in the most unlikely of circumstances.

This Sunday, we will explore where to find these moments of unexpected grace in our own lives. How can we learn to notice the beauty that flourishes in hard places? And how can we cultivate the hope that allows us to grow, even when the way forward seems paved over?

We invite you to a morning of thoughtful contemplation, music, and shared community as we seek the flowers in our own driveways.

Let's make a splash and kick off our church year together!

Join us for one of our most beloved traditions, the Water Communion Service, on Sunday, September 14th. The idea is simple and beautiful: bring a small amount of water that represents a special part of your summer. Did you dip your toes in the ocean, travel to a new city, or just enjoy the simple joy of your garden hose? All water tells a story! During the service, we'll pour our waters together into a single bowl, blending our unique experiences into one shared story. It’s a fun, moving, and powerful way to see how our individual streams of life flow back together to create our wonderful community. We can't wait to hear your story!
