A Poet, Mystic, Activist, Advocate, Environmentalist

Saint Francis of Assisi, a 13th century Catholic Monk, is probably best known for his love and relationship with animals. However, his core values transcend religious doctrine. Secular thinkers embrace him as a historical model for environmentalism, radical simplicity, and compassion.

Come hear more about a man who would remain quite relevant today, offering a powerful countercultural message for modern issues.

9/13 - Water Service

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13th - WATER CEREMONY
10AM - Noon

The Water Ceremony, also sometimes called Water Service or Water Ingathering, was first used at a Unitarian Universalist (UU) worship service in the 1980s. Many UU congregations now hold a Water Ceremony, often at the beginning of the new church year (September). At SUUF, it has been our tradition to mark the beginning of a new year with this special service.

Members bring a small amount of water from a place(s) that is special to them. During the service, people one by one pour their water together into a large bowl. The combined water is symbolic of how time spent apart is now joined back together in community.

7/10 - Sewing Share

Friday July 10th starts at 6PM (arrive when you can)

The Sewing Share have been such a success, we're having another! There will be sewing machines to share and demonstrate, and knowledgeable sewers to lead the way! Machine and hand sewing tips and techniques will be offered. "Sew" come on out and play!

7/9 - Pizza and Notes to Detainees

Pizza and Notes to Detainees
Thursday July 9th 6-8PM

There are hundreds of immigrants imprisoned in detention centers in New Jersey. Delaney Hall in Newark is the largest on the east coast. Many of these immigrants were abducted while following the rules of checking in or while working at their jobs. Many have been imported from other states and have no family or friends here for support.

We will gather downstairs at SUUF to write notes or kids to draw pictures of support and encouragement to our sisters and brothers behind the barbed wire. We work with the Pax Christi organization to get these notes addressed and mailed because nothing can just be brought in. Please come and participate in this writing campaign. You can’t imagine how welcome a note of support and encouragement helps when these people are so isolated and feel alone and frightened.

7-8 - Writing Notes. Some suggested messages in English and Spanish will be provided or write free form from your heart. Kids can draw pics. Who doesn’t smile at a child’s drawing.

Mutual Aid and Food Share
Sunday at 10AM
We will have a panel presentation on the mission of Mutual Aid and the upcoming partnership between SUUF and Mutual Aid to offer Food Share to our community. Learn about this important organization and how you might become involved with the Food Share soon to be launched at SUUF.
This will be our last service until September.

Service Sunday - Gardening, etc!
Sunday at 10AM
We'll be pitching in together to help spruce up our native plant beds, help extend our new living fencing, and generally cleaning up the grounds as well as the SUUF building. Hope you can come lend a hand! We have some tools available, but feel free to bring your favorites implements as well.
